Pakistan, Boeing hold talks on PIA fleet expansion

Washington (Web Desk): Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Boeing's headquarters in Washington, where he held a high-level meeting with Boeing Global President Brendan Nelson to discuss the purchase of new aircraft for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The meeting was also attended by a delegation from PIA's new management, highlighting the government's efforts to modernize the national flag carrier and strengthen its aviation sector.

During the discussions, both sides reviewed plans for the acquisition of 16 new aircraft for PIA. They exchanged views on the most suitable aircraft options and explored ways to secure the best commercial terms to support the airline's fleet expansion and long-term operational requirements.

Officials said the talks resulted in significant progress, with both sides agreeing to work closely toward finalizing the agreement at the earliest possible opportunity.

Mohsin Naqvi thanked Boeing Global President Brendan Nelson for assuring full cooperation in expediting the procurement process.

He appreciated Boeing's leadership in the global aerospace industry and acknowledged the company's longstanding contribution to aircraft manufacturing and aviation innovation.

The planned acquisition of 16 aircraft is expected to play a central role in PIA's fleet modernization programme.

The initiative aims to enhance the airline's operational efficiency, expand its network, improve passenger services, and strengthen the national carrier's competitiveness in the international aviation market.
