Islamabad (Web Desk): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended a total of 159 lawmakers for not submitting their declarations of assets and liabilities.
This action affects 32 members of the National Assembly (NA), 50 from the Punjab Assembly, 33 from Sindh Asembly, 28 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and seven from Balochistan Assembly respectively.
In addition, nine senators have also been suspended.
Until these elected officials complete the required paperwork, they will be barred from participating in any parliamentary or provincial assembly activities.
The ECP has emphasized that their memberships will not be reinstated until the statements are submitted.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq instructed the suspended members to vacate the House, noting that their presence will not be recorded and they will not be allowed to occupy their seats.
Under Pakistani election law, every elected representative must file annual statements of assets and liabilities with the ECP, and failure to do so automatically results in suspension of their membership.
