Washington (Web Desk): US President Donald Trump has filed a defamation lawsuit against the BBC, claiming $5 billion in damages in Florida over an edited clip of his speech aired by the British broadcaster.
Trump claims that the BBC aired a manipulated version of his January 6, 2021 speech, which created the false impression that he incited violence among his supporters. In reality, he argues, the segments in question were delivered almost an hour apart from each other.
This is not the first time Trump has threatened legal action against the BBC. Previously, he had warned of a $1 billion lawsuit. The BBC later admitted the mistake, apologized, and acknowledged that the editing misrepresented the speech.
Following the incident, BBC Director-General Tim Davie and BBC News Head Deborah Turness resigned from their posts.
