COVID-19: Pakistan reports 105 deaths, 2,731 new infections in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 445,977 on Wednesday after 2,731 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 198,482 cases were reported in Sindh, 128,673 in Punjab, 53,253 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 17,796 in Balochistan, 35,203 in Islamabad, 4,799 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 7,771 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 9,010 with 105 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 388,598 after another 2,265 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on National Health Services Dr Faisal Sultan has urged the people to strictly adhere to the SOPs to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus.

In a video message, he pointed out that increasing cases of Covid-19 are increasing the burden on the health facilities.

“People should wear masks, observe social distancing, hand wash with regular intervals and avoid big gatherings,” the SAPM said.

Dr Faisal Sultan said that the people should observe precaution whilst celebrating their events such as weddings or the Christmas.

The SAPM said cooperation is required at the grassroots level to check the spread of the pandemic.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 72.8 million and death toll tops 1.620 million.
