Washington (Web Desk): US President Donald Trump has claimed that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to refrain from targeting each other’s oil and energy infrastructure.
According to Trump, during his conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he stressed the need to halt attacks on Russian diesel and fuel facilities. Zelensky, he said, agreed that Ukraine would avoid striking Russian oil installations.
The US president further said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had also previously assured him that Moscow would refrain from attacking Ukraine’s oil facilities. Trump said that an end to strikes on energy infrastructure in both countries could help ease concerns over potential shortages in the global oil market.
However, neither Russia nor Ukraine has so far officially confirmed any formal agreement or a comprehensive ceasefire.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has welcomed Trump’s call, stressing the importance of protecting energy infrastructure from attacks.
Reports indicate that Ukrainian drone strikes in recent months have damaged several Russian oil refineries and energy facilities, disrupting fuel production, while Russian attacks have continued to damage critical infrastructure in Ukraine, including electricity and gas facilities.
Ukraine maintains that its attacks on Russian energy facilities are intended to weaken Moscow’s ability to sustain the war and increase economic pressure on Russia.
