Islamabad (Web Desk): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephonic conversation with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi, who is also contesting for the post of United Nations secretary-general, regarding the changing regional landscape, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Tuesday.

In a statement posted on X, the Foreign Office (FO) said that Dar and Grossi spoke late Monday night and shared the view that carrying out the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU) “remained the best course of action to defuse tensions”.

"Grossi offered technical support should the need arise," the statement said.

The FO said DPM Dar also reiterated Pakistan’s “enduring commitment” to promoting the aims and principles enshrined in the UN Charter, as well as upholding international law and treaties.

The deputy prime minister stressed “the crucial importance of the UN system” in pursuing the international goals of peace and development.

He also extended his good wishes to Ambassador Grossi for his bid for the position of UN secretary-general, the FO statement added.
