Islamabad (Web Desk): An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday approved Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president and former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi's bail in a case relating to an attack on Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) in Islamabad.

ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain presided over today’s hearing.

Babar Awan and Sardar Abdul Razzaq appeared as Elahi’s lawyers while prosecutor Raja Naveed was also present.

During the hearing, the lawyers argued that Elahi was not nominated in the first information report (FIR), following which the court accepted the bail plea against surety bonds of Rs20,000.

At the outset of the hearing, the prosecutor informed the court that the case record would be ready soon, at which the judge expressed his displeasure and ordered Elahi’s lawyers to start presenting their arguments.

Babar Awan told the court that the former Punjab CM was not named in the FIR, adding that the police could not recover anything during the three-day physical remand.

"Parvez Elahi was arrested on the basis of suspicion," added Awan.

At this, Prosecutor Raja Naveed said that the provisions under which the FIR was registered are non-bailable.

The judge observed that Elahi was not nominated in the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) attack case. He added that nothing was recovered during his physical remand.

After hearing the arguments, the court accepted Parvez Elahi’s bail plea.

On September 8, the same court sent Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on 14-day judicial remand in the Judicial Complex attack case.

The PTI president was arrested on September 1,shortly after his release from the National Accountability's (NAB) custody, despite the Lahore High Court (LHC) had explicitly restricted the authorities from arresting him.
