Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fostering closer ties with Bangladesh, particularly through enhanced trade and deeper people-to-people engagement.
The premier said this during a meeting with Bangladesh’s High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan who paid a courtesy call on him in Islamabad on Friday.
The prime minister expressed his contentment with the steady progress in bilateral interactions, highlighting that both nations have seen encouraging developments in recent times across political, economic, and cultural domains.
He noted with appreciation the ongoing efforts to re-establish various channels of dialogue and cooperation that had been dormant in the past.
Reflecting on his previous exchanges with Dr. Mohammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Shehbaz recalled their most recent discussion on the sidelines of the D-8 Summit in Cairo last December. He described those talks as both warm and constructive, underscoring the mutual willingness to deepen bilateral understanding.
Emphasizing the importance of continuing the positive momentum in relations, the prime minister welcomed the renewed energy in engagement between Islamabad and Dhaka.
In response, High Commissioner Khan shared updates on initiatives underway to promote travel, economic exchange, and greater connectivity between the two nations. He also voiced his commitment to working diligently to further enrich the longstanding relationship between the people of Bangladesh and Pakistan.
PM Shehbaz extended his full support to the high commissioner in carrying out his diplomatic responsibilities and conveyed his best wishes for a successful tenure, expressing hope that the coming years would witness further advancement in the ties between the two countries.
