Quetta (Web Desk): At least three personnel of the Frontier Constabulary were martyred 16 others sustained injuries in an explosion that struck a police convoy in Balochistan’s Mastung on Tuesday.
The blast, which occurred in the Shamsabad locality, targeted a vehicle transporting security forces, injuring up to 16 members of the FC.
All the injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, while those with severe injuries are being transferred to Quetta for advanced medical care.
Authorities have ordered a detailed investigation into the incident, and a report has been sought, the spokesperson added.
Following the attack, authorities declared an emergency at Bolan Medical Complex Hospital and Civil Hospital in Quetta.
According to the provincial government’s spokesperson, the injured were being airlifted to the city for treatment, with at least two of them reported to be in critical condition.
Balochistan government Spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that the convoy, en route from Kalat through the RTC, was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unknown assailants.
He said that Balochi Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti instructed Health Minister Bakht Kakar to personally supervise the treatment of the injured and to ensure that no lapses in medical care occur.
In a statement, Srfraz Bugti emphasized that the government is committed to providing the best possible support to those affected and made it clear that any form of negligence in handling the situation will not be tolerated.
The Balochistan CM also pledged that the province would not abandon the families of the fallen and would honour their sacrifice.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a vehicle of the Balochistan Constabulary in the Shamsabad area of Mastung district in Balochistan.
The president and prime minister, in their separately issued statements, expressed grief over the martyrdom of three personnel of the Balochistan Constabulary.
They prayed for peace for the martyred souls and strength for the bereaved families to bear the loss.
President Zardari also prayed for the early recovery of the injured and reiterated the nation’s resolve for continuous efforts to wipe out terrorism from the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz directed the authorities concerned to provide immediate medical assistance to those injured.
“We will thwart the nefarious designs of the terrorists, who are enemies of humanity. Our war against terrorists will continue until the scourge of terrorism is completely eradicated from the country,” PM Shehbaz added.
