Islamabad (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari, Monday, conferred Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) upon Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali, Chief of the Indonesian Navy, recognising his contribution to the promotion of relations between the two navies, at a special investiture ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The award was conferred at a special investiture ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr, which was attended by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, parliamentarians and members of the diplomatic community, according to a statement issued by the President Secretariat Media Wing.
After the ceremony, Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali met President Zardari, who congratulated the Indonesian naval chief on being honoured with the prestigious award.
During their meeting, President Zardari described the relationship between Pakistan and Indonesia as longstanding and brotherly, while stressing the importance of expanding collaboration between their navies.
He noted that the blue economy offered significant opportunities and said both countries should work together to promote development in the maritime sector.
The president also praised the Indonesian Navy for its continued participation in exercises conducted by the Pakistan Navy, describing such engagement as an important part of strengthening bilateral naval cooperation.
Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali was accompanied by Indonesian Ambassador Lt Gen (Ret.) Chandra W. Sukotjo during the meeting.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Senator Saleem Mandviwalla were also in attendance.
