Asad Umar gets pre-arrest bail in cipher case

Islamabad (Web Desk): A special court in Islamabad on Thursday accepted the pre-arrest bail plea of former federal minister Asad Umar in the cipher case.

According to details, Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) lawyer advocate Shah Khawar informed the court that no evidence has been found against Umar yet and he has not been named in the First Information Report (FIR) either.

The lawyer added that in case evidence is found against the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) general-secretary the authorities "will see".

After the prosecution’s response, Asad's counsel Babar Awan requeswted the judge to grant Umar’s bail in the case

Following the prosecutor’s testimony, the judge granted the PTI leader’s request for against the surety bond of Rs 50,000.

Umar showed a desire to participate in the cipher investigation, but the prosecution chose not to look into him in the case, according to Judge Zulqarnain.

The judge directed  the FIA to follow the law if Asad Umar’s detention was necessary.

Additionally, he instructed the FIA to alert the PTI leader in advance of the arrest before making one.

It is pertinent to mention that PTI chief and former premier Imran Khan and party's vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi are among others implicated in the case.

On Wednesday, the special court extended the judicial remand of Imran and Qureshi till September 26, 2023.

The FIA was directed to submit the case challan at the next hear.
