Lahore (Staff Report): Punjab government has extended the parole granted to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar till Monday (September 17) 4pm.

The Punjab Home Department on late Thursday issued a notification regarding the extension in the parole of the three, who have been released from Adiala Jail in order to attend Begum Kulsoom’s funeral.

The body of former first lady Begum Kulsoom Nawaz has been shifted to Jati Umra.

Pakistan International Airlines' (PIA) flight PK-758, carrying Begum Kulsoom’s body from London landed at Allama Iqbal International Airport around 6:45am on Friday.

The body was transferred to an ambulance directly from the airplane and taken to Sharif Medical City.

Shehbaz Sharif, the deceased's brother-in-law and president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), along with Begum Kulsoom's daughter Asma, grandson Zayd Hussain Sharif (Hussain Nawaz's son), and 11 other family members accompanied the body.

Nawaz, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Captain (retd) Mohammad Safdar who have been released on parole were also taken to Sharif Medical City to pay their respects.

The funeral prayers will be offered at Sharif Medical City at Jati Umra neighbourhood at 5pm, while Quran Khawni will be held on Sunday between Asar and Maghrib prayers.

Kulsoom travelled to the British capital city in August last year, where she was diagnosed with Lymphoma, prompting Sharif family members to get her admitted to the upscale health facility.

The former first lady, who contested elections from NA-120 Lahore last year, was shifted to the intensive care unit at a UK hospital from the emergency unit after her condition deteriorated ahead of Eid ul Fitr.

She is survived by her husband and four children, Hassan, Hussain, Maryam and Asma.
