Islamabad (Web Desk): Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Friday asserted that the passage of the 27th Constitutional Amendment will secure justice for the citizens and provide a fair and transparent mechanism to resolve constitutional disputes.
Addressing the National Assembly, he stressed that Parliament remains the nation’s highest authority.
“The Constitution entrusts powers to Parliament, and this authority has now been reaffirmed,” he said.
He sharply criticized opposition members, accusing them of showing loyalty to individuals rather than to the country or its Constitution. Referring to recent terrorist attacks in Wana and Islamabad, he said the opposition had not even voiced a word of condemnation. “Despite the arrest of their facilitators, there has been total silence from their side,” he added.
Questioning their allegiance, Asif asked whether the opposition stood with Pakistan or with militants. “Their statements and behavior reveal they do not support the Constitution or the nation’s institutions, particularly Parliament. Their focus seems limited to personal agendas,” he claimed.
He went on to suggest that opposition leaders were sympathetic to terrorists and were attempting to shield those involved in cross-border attacks. He urged them to clarify whether their loyalty was to Pakistan, the Constitution, or a single individual.
The minister also lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces for their role in safeguarding the country’s borders, airspace, and seas, calling it a “new chapter” in national defense.
Khawaja Asif accused former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his associates of large-scale corruption. “Nothing like this level of theft has been witnessed in Pakistan’s 78-year history,” he said.
