Islamabad (Web Desk): The fifth death anniversary of acclaimed writer, columnist, cartoonist, television producer, and creator of the legendary ‘Uncle Sargam’ character, Farooq Qaiser, was observed on Thursday.
Born on 31 October 1945, Farooq Qaiser rose to nationwide prominence for his groundbreaking role in advancing puppetry, caricature, and children’s literature in Pakistan, where his work helped introduce new creative dimensions to children’s television.
He is best remembered for his famous puppet character 'Uncle Sargam', which made its debut in 1976 in the children’s television programme Kaliyan, eventually becoming one of the most recognizable figures in Pakistani entertainment.
During his lifetime, he was the recipient of several distinguished national honours, including the Sitara-e-Imtiaz and the Pride of Performance, awarded in recognition of his significant contributions to the field of arts and media.
He passed away on this day in 2021 in Islamabad.
