Washington/Moscow (Web Desk): U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected a major offer from Russian President Vladimir Putin, under which Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium would have been transferred to Russia.
The proposal was seen as part of a significant diplomatic deal aimed at preventing potential Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iran.
According to media reports, President Putin called Trump to present a formula to curb the rising tensions in the region.
Key points of the deal included transferring all of Iran’s enriched uranium to Russia to eliminate nuclear weapons concerns, in exchange for the U.S. and Israel refraining from attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Reports reveal that Iran currently possesses 450 kilograms of enriched uranium, which experts say could be enough to produce more than 10 nuclear bombs. This is why Iran’s uranium stockpiles and enrichment sites remain top targets for the U.S. and Israel.
Following Trump’s rejection of the proposal, defense experts suggest that the U.S. may intensify its “Maximum Pressure” policy on Iran.
The Trump administration maintains that simply transferring the uranium is insufficient and that Iran’s nuclear program must be completely and permanently dismantled.
This refusal increases the likelihood of military action in the region. Israel has already made it clear that it will go to any lengths to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power, and Trump’s decision strengthens this stance.
