Dubai (Web Desk): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has begun reviewing major changes to the formats of its global tournaments, including the ODI World Cup, World Test Championship (WTC) and T20 World Cup.
According to a BBC report, one proposal under consideration would reduce the number of teams in the ODI World Cup from 14 to 12. The ICC is also considering introducing a Super Seven stage in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The report said the proposed changes could result in more frequent high-profile clashes between arch-rivals Pakistan and India during ICC events.
To make the World Test Championship more competitive, the ICC is also discussing the addition of semi-finals. The proposal is aimed at increasing interest in Test cricket among mid-ranked teams and keeping more nations in contention for the title.
Meanwhile, the governing body is reviewing the possibility of replacing the Super Eight stage in the T20 World Cup with a Super Ten format.
The report further stated that preparations are also underway to launch a World Club T20 Championship, similar to football's club world tournaments.
In addition, the ICC is considering replacing some bilateral series with four-nation mini tournaments as part of its future international cricket calendar.
