Washington (Web Desk): US President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a strong warning, stating that the United States would take “very strong action” if Iran moves forward with executing protesters. Iranian authorities, however, dismissed the threat, suggesting that American warnings might serve as a justification for possible military intervention.
The protests, which erupted nationwide last week, have drawn intense international attention. Human rights organizations say thousands may have been killed amid the government’s crackdown, though Iranian officials insist that the situation remains under control.
In a message on X, Iran’s mission to the United Nations accused Washington of seeking regime change. The statement said US policy toward Iran relies on sanctions, threats, and deliberately stirred unrest, all aimed at paving the way for military action.
Trump, who has previously encouraged Iranians to continue demonstrating, told CBS News that the US would act decisively if executions take place. Iranian prosecutors have announced plans to press capital charges against some participants, citing the offense of “moharebeh,” or “waging war against God.”
Disturbing videos circulating online show bodies in Tehran’s Kahrizak morgue, wrapped in black bags, as family members search desperately for missing relatives. Internet access has been heavily restricted for more than five days, though outgoing phone lines have partially resumed.
Trump also posted on Truth Social urging Iranians to “KEEP PROTESTING” and said he had canceled planned meetings with Iranian officials until the violence stops, without specifying how the US might intervene.
European governments have voiced deep concern over the escalating violence. France, Germany, and the United Kingdom summoned Iranian ambassadors, while EU chief Ursula von der Leyen described the situation as “horrifying” and promised further sanctions against those responsible.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that dozens of security personnel have been killed, with funerals drawing large pro-government crowds. A mass funeral in Tehran is scheduled for Wednesday to commemorate the recent casualties.
