Lahore (Web Desk): The 14th death anniversary of Arfa Karim Randhawa, Pakistan’s extraordinary young computer prodigy, is being observed today (Wednesday).
In 2004, at just nine years old, Arfa made history by becoming the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) in the world, a milestone that brought immense pride to her family and the nation.
Her talents took her to international stages, where she represented Pakistan with distinction. In November 2006, she was personally invited by Microsoft to attend the Tech-Ed Developers conference in Barcelona, themed “Get Ahead of the Game.” Out of more than 5,000 developers, Arfa was the only Pakistani at the event, a testament to her exceptional abilities.
In her short life, she achieved countless remarkable feats. She received the prestigious Pride of Performance award from the Government of Pakistan.
On August 2, 2005, she became the youngest person to earn a first flight certificate from Dubai Flying Club. A state-of-the-art science park in Lahore, the Arfa Software Technology Park, was named in her honor. She also held a place in the Guinness Book of World Records until 2008.
Arfa was a bright and lively soul whose brilliance inspired all who knew her, but tragedy struck on December 22, 2011, when she suffered a cardiac arrest following an epileptic seizure that severely affected her brain.
She passed away a month later, on January 14, 2012, leaving behind a legacy far greater than her years.
Even after her untimely death, Arfa Karim's journey continues to motivate young minds in Pakistan and around the world.
As the nation remembers her today, her story of talent, determination, and unwavering curiosity remains a shining example for future generations.
