New York (Web Desk): Pakistan on Monday issued a strong condemnation of the latest Israeli military strikes conducted across Lebanon, particularly in the country’s southern areas, saying the attacks have triggered a grave and deepening humanitarian catastrophe.
Speaking at an OIC ambassadorial-level session convened to review the worsening humanitarian conditions in Lebanon, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations (UN), warned that the crisis was intensifying daily, with vast numbers of displaced civilians facing increasingly harsh survival conditions.
He cited UN figures indicating that the escalation of Israeli bombardment in Lebanon has led to over 2,000 deaths and more than 6,500 injuries, while approximately 1.2 million people have been forced from their homes.
Jadoon further noted that the country’s healthcare system is under extreme pressure and nearing collapse.
Reaffirming Islamabad’s position, he restated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Lebanon, and strongly denounced Israel’s continued military operations.
“The large-scale destruction of civilian infrastructure and the blatant disregard for international humanitarian law must cease immediately,” Jadoon said.
The Pakistani envoy also acknowledged and appreciated the Lebanese government’s initiatives aimed at restoring stability and strengthening state institutions, including recent cabinet-level measures to reinforce national security frameworks.
He also referred to Beirut’s de-escalation efforts, including a four-point initiative presented by its leadership to bring back peace and stability.
"Pakistan strongly condemned the targeting of UN peacekeepers deployed under UNIFIL, noting that personnel serving in the mission have been injured in Israeli attacks," Jadoon said.
The envoy urged that safe and unhindered humanitarian access be ensured across all affected regions so that relief assistance can reach those in urgent need.
He emphasized that, at this critical juncture, restraint, de-escalation, and renewed diplomatic engagement were essential to prevent the security situation in the region from deteriorating further.
“Only through sustained political dialogue and respect for international law can the region move toward stability and peace,” the Pakistani envoy said.
