Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad on Tuesday and took him into confidence on all aspects of the negotiations between the United States (US) and Iran.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister gave a detailed account of the different phases of the dialogue process, explaining the steps taken so far and the progress achieved through Pakistan’s mediation role.
He also apprised the president about his planned visits to Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, which are aimed at further consultations and strengthening diplomatic outreach in support of peace initiatives.
President Zardari, while reviewing the regional and international situation, observed that the current developments carry serious implications not only for neighbouring countries but also for broader global stability, including political, economic, and security dimensions.
He acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s active role in bringing the US and Iran to the negotiating table.
The president praised PM Shehbaz Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir and all relevant state institutions for their consistent and coordinated efforts, saying that this unified approach had been crucial in ensuring the success of the diplomatic initiative.
He stressed that effective coordination among all stakeholders had greatly facilitated the high-level engagement process.
President Zardari also underlined Pakistan’s longstanding contribution to promoting peace and stability in the region.
He noted that by hosting and enabling such an important dialogue, Pakistan had once again demonstrated its relevance as a responsible state actor and reinforced its image as a contributor to global peace efforts.
President Zardari said that the prime minister and the deputy prime minister should remain proactively engaged with the US and Iran, as well as major regional and global powers, to ensure the sustainability of the peace process and regional harmony.
The meeting was attended by DPM Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Federal Minister, Senator Rana Sanaullah, while the President was assisted by former premier Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Parliamentary leader in the Senate Sherry Rehman and former Senate chairman Nayyar Bukhari.
