London (Web Desk): Pakistan’s diplomatic role in hosting ceasefire talks between Iran and the United States (US) received strong praise in the British Parliament, where leaders acknowledged Islamabad’s contribution to easing tensions.
During a key parliamentary session, Labour Party MP Mohammad Afzal Khan raised the issue of the Islamabad negotiations, telling the House that Pakistan had successfully facilitated direct talks between Washington and Tehran last week—an achievement he described as a milestone for global peace.
He also expressed gratitude for the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and the country’s military leadership for their role in making the dialogue possible.
Khan went on to ask how strongly the United Kingdom, as an ally, was backing Pakistan’s peace initiatives.
Responding to the query, British PM Starmer told the House that he had held a detailed conversation with Shehbaz Sharif just three days earlier.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s contribution to negotiations and the restoration of peace was both significant and indispensable, adding that the UK was grateful for Islamabad’s efforts.
Starmer further revealed that the Pakistani premier had sought Britain’s support for the initiative, and stated that Britain fully supports Pakistan’s efforts in advancing the peace process.
Diplomatic observers note that the British Prime Minister’s public appreciation in the House of Commons underscores the growing global recognition of Pakistan’s mediation diplomacy.
The remarks are being seen as a reflection of the country’s rising international stature and its expanding influence in global affairs.
