Jeddah (Web Desk): One Pakistani expatriate and a two-year-old Saudi infant were killed and 14 others, including four security persons, injured after terrorists shot at workers and passersby at a development project site in Al-Masourah district of Al-Awamiyah in Qatif governorate in the Eastern Province.

Security spokesman at the Ministry of Interior Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said that the attack took place following the terrorists’ attempt to disrupt construction of a development project in Al-Masourah.

According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the injured include four expatriates – two Pakistanis, one Indian and Sudanese each and six Saudis. The condition of one Saudi and the Indian are critical. The ministry said local people are acting in solidarity with the police to capture the gunmen. The ministry also called on the culprits to surrender themselves to the authorities.

According to the spokesman, workers of a contracting company were at the site of the project, being implemented under the supervision of Eastern Province Mayoralty, when they came under attack by terrorists.

They started heavy fire and used improvised devices targeting the machinery used for work. When the security forces launched an operation to track down the terrorists who used the abandoned houses in the neighborhood as their hideout, they started firing indiscriminately at the passersby and the security forces, resulting in the casualties, the spokesman said.
