Islamabad (Web Desk): Religious leaders from various Islamic schools of thought in Pakistan have come together to call for national unity and harmony in the face of mounting regional tensions, denouncing sectarianism and divisive influences spreading on social media.
On the occasion of Youm-ul-Quds (International Quds Day), observed today, the scholars reiterated their strong support for the Palestinian cause, condemning Israel’s occupation, its actions in Gaza, and the restrictions imposed on Masjid Al-Aqsa.
The day’s commemorations are taking place under themes such as Youm-e-Tahafuz-e-Harmain Sharifain, Youm-ul-Quds, and Youm-ul-Aqsa, with special sermons in mosques stressing solidarity and resistance against oppression.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday alongside religious figures from multiple sects, Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC), highlighted the close ties between Pakistan and Iran, criticized attempts to divide the Muslim Ummah, and stressed the need to protect Islamic holy sites.
He called on Pakistanis to remain united amid the evolving situation following US-Israeli military strikes on Iran.
Ashrafi described the Muslim world as deeply mourning the attacks, reporting that more than 1,000 people have been killed, including civilians such as women, children, and students. He also congratulated the Iranian nation on the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Supreme Leader after the assassination of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Emphasizing the message of unity and cohesion delivered by the late Supreme Leader, Ashrafi noted that religious scholars in Pakistan have consistently advocated for harmony and solidarity within the Muslim community.
He cautioned against elements, particularly operating from abroad via social media, that seek to incite unrest and sectarian conflict in Pakistan, urging strict action by the Ministry of Interior.
Allama Arif Hussain Wahidi, in his comments, urged Gulf nations and Iran to recognize efforts to create divisions among Muslim countries.
He acknowledged positive measures, such as Gulf states not allowing their territories to be used against Iran and Iran’s efforts to refrain from attacks on Gulf nations.
The Ulema collectively condemned Israel’s violent actions in Gaza and called on the Islamic world and the international community to address the crisis.
Among the leading scholars present were Allama Arif Wahidi, Allama Ashfaq Wahidi, Maulana Noman Hashir, Maulana Qasim Qasmi, Maulana Abu Bakar, Maulana Afzal Shah, and Maulana Shehbaz Ahmed.
Separately, prominent Shia scholar Allama Shahnshah Naqvi addressed a gathering, stating that the Pakistani government and its institutions are fully aware of the public’s concerns, emotions, and current challenges.
He emphasized that while national identity remains paramount, citizens must also remain conscious of domestic issues and border threats.
Naqvi described followers of Shia guidance under Ayatollah Khoei, Ayatollah Khamenei, and the late Supreme Leader as composed and prudent, urging them not to take the law into their own hands or harm others.
He advised the youth to confront ideological challenges with intellect and reasoning instead of impulsive behavior, and stressed that no individual should jeopardize national institutions or assets.
