Islamabad (Web Desk): The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has clarified that digital identity cards hold the same legal status as physical ID cards.

However, some government and financial institutions are still requesting physical cards or photocopies, a practice that goes against legal and regulatory rules.

According to NADRA, under Ordinance Regulations 9 and 10, digital identity credentials are fully recognized by law. Their use helps protect citizens’ data and prevents misuse of identity information.

The authority has directed government departments, public and financial institutions, and telecom operators to fully accept digital identity cards. Citizens are encouraged to report any violations or complaints through NADRA’s official complaint system.

This move is aimed at promoting a secure, efficient, and paperless identity verification system across Pakistan, aligning with modern digital governance standards.
