Punjab Assembly: Progress in talks over opposition members’ suspension, joint session expected soon

Lahore (Web Desk): Significant developments have taken place regarding the suspension of 26 opposition members in the Punjab Assembly. Leaders from both the government and opposition have reached agreements on several issues and decided to hold another session within the next three to four days to further address the matter.

The second session on this issue was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan and lasted for about two and a half hours.

After the meeting, Opposition Leader Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar told the media that the discussions were constructive and fruitful. He said he would present the points discussed to his party and that another meeting would be arranged soon to finalize the outstanding issues.

Provincial Finance Minister and government representative Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman stated that the government aims to uphold the dignity of all members in the assembly, whether from the government or opposition. He emphasized the desire to make the assembly a true representative body of the people.

Both government and opposition members expressed their commitment to restoring the assembly's traditions of decorum and agreed to collectively eliminate disorderly behavior and disruptions within the house.
