Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have decided to put in place a formal framework for launching a 'Pre-Immigration Clearance' system, marking a major step toward easing travel between the two countries.
The decision was taken during a meeting on Tuesday in Islamabad between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a UAE delegation led by Ahmed bin Lahij Al Falasi, Director General of Customs and Port Security. It was agreed that the new facility would first be introduced as a pilot project at Karachi.
The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding cooperation and making immigration procedures more convenient for passengers.
Speaking at the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi explained that under the new arrangement, immigration and other required checks would be completed in Pakistan before departure.
This would allow travellers landing in the UAE to avoid long queues and leave the airport in the same way as local passengers.
He said the initiative is expected to make journeys smoother, save valuable time and greatly improve the overall travel experience.
The visiting UAE officials described the plan as a positive step for people in both countries and conveyed their willingness to work closely on it.
Both sides agreed that the relevant authorities would remain in contact to finalize the technical and administrative details of the Karachi pilot project.
If it runs successfully, the system will be gradually extended to other cities as well.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Federal Secretary Interior Khurram Agha were also present at the meeting.
