Bannu (Web Desk): Four members of peace committee were gunned down on Tuesday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Bannu district when unknown attackers opened fire on their vehicle

According to police, the men were on their way back from a jirga in the Gulbadeen Lundai area when the ambush took place.

After the shooting, law enforcement personnel reached the scene and moved the victims’ bodies to the district headquarters hospital to complete medico-legal requirements.

A large-scale search operation has since been launched in the surrounding area to trace those responsible and prevent any further violence.

A police officer said a formal probe into the incident is underway, but cautioned that it was too early to label the assault as an act of terrorism.

The killing is part of a disturbing pattern of attacks targeting peace committee members in the district.

In November 2025, a deadly strike on a peace committee office in Bannu claimed the lives of seven people.

In October, a member of a tribal peace committee was also killed during an encounter with militants in the Ahmadzai area of the same district.
