Lahore (Staff Report/Agencies): Punjab Governor Baligh Ur Rehman has confirmed receipt of advice sent by Chief Minister Parvez Elahi seeking the dissolution of the provincial legislature.
On Thursday, Elahi formally advised the governor to dissolve the provincial legislature.
“I, Parvez Elahi Chief Minister Punjab, hereby advise you to dissolve the provincial assembly of Punjab,” reads the signed advice sent to the governor.
PTI stalwart Fawad Chaudhry said the summary had been sent to the governor requiring him to dissolve the assembly in 48 hours.
“If the governor does not accept the advice within that time, the assembly will automatically stand dissolved,” said the former minister.
Elahi managed to secure the confidence of 186 members, in a session that began on Wednesday and ended in the early hours of Thursday.
Lawmakers sitting on the treasury benches entrusted their trust in Elahi, with the opposition boycotting the session in protest after tearing up the agenda copies.
A total of 186 members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) voted in support of Elahi as the chief minister on a resolution moved by provincial ministers Mian Aslam Iqbal and Raja Basharat.
