Islamabad (Web Desk): World Radio Day is being celebrated today across the globe including Pakistan to highlight the vital role of radio in informing, educating, and connecting people across cultures.
The theme for 2026 is “Radio and Artificial Intelligence,” reflecting how AI can enhance broadcasting, improve accessibility, and streamline content management, all while preserving the irreplaceable human touch of radio.
In his message, President Asif Ali Zardari said that World Radio Day is a tribute to radio’s unique ability to reach people across different geographies and cultural boundaries. He praised the tireless efforts of radio professionals and reaffirmed the importance of supporting this enduring medium. The President also pointed out that this year’s theme emphasizes the growing collaboration between radio and artificial intelligence.
Focusing on Radio Pakistan, President Zardari noted its historical significance in delivering reliable information, promoting cultural heritage, and giving voice to the diversity of Pakistan’s languages and perspectives.
He said that Radio Pakistan has provided clarity and reassurance in challenging times—from natural disasters to moments of rapid social change—and has maintained dialogue within society.
Broadcasting today in twenty-six languages, it continues to reach audiences like no other medium. In a world of complex information flows, the President said, Radio Pakistan remains a trusted source for credible news, public service updates, and cultural expression.
In his message on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also underlined his government’s commitment to modernizing Radio Pakistan by integrating it with advanced technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence.
He said that under the Digital Pakistan Vision, the government is encouraging innovation in media and IT sectors, aiming to position Pakistan as a leader in knowledge and technology.
The prime minister reflected on Radio Pakistan’s legacy as a unifying force for the nation, a platform that has raised awareness and made information widely accessible since the country’s creation.
He highlighted its contributions to agriculture, environmental awareness, culture, and public education.
PM Shehbaz observed that as the world embraces the digital era, radio is also evolving to meet contemporary demands.
“The theme “Radio and Artificial Intelligence” exemplifies how blending technology with human creativity can make communication more inclusive and impactful,” the premier said, adding that Pakistan is taking concrete steps to equip its youth with modern skills and align its media sector with global standards.
PM Shehbaz called for a collective commitment to modernize Radio Pakistan and the wider media landscape in Pakistan, ensuring these platforms remain pillars of truth, responsibility, and national unity.
