Colombo (Web Desk): The United States national cricket team kept their tournament hopes alive with a commanding 93-run victory against the Netherlands national cricket team in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 group-stage match played on Friday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Chasing a challenging target of 197 runs, the Dutch side collapsed for just 103 in 15.5 overs.

Bas de Leede led the resistance with a quick 23 off 17 balls, while skipper Scott Edwards contributed 20 runs. Max O’Dowd and Roelof van der Merwe were the only other batters to reach double figures.

USA’s bowling attack was led brilliantly by Singh, who claimed four wickets for 21 runs. Shadley van Schalkwyk picked up three wickets, while Mohammad Mohsin and Nosthush Kenjige added one each.

Earlier, opting to field first proved costly for the Netherlands as the USA posted a strong 196 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs.

The American innings had an early wobble with opener Shayan Jahangir departing for 20, but captain Monank Patel and Saiteja Mukkamalla steadied things with a crucial partnership. Patel scored 36 before falling in the ninth over.

After a brief setback, Mukkamalla built another vital stand with Shubham Ranjane and went on to top-score with a superb 79 off 51 deliveries, including five fours and four sixes.

Ranjane then powered the late surge with an unbeaten 48 from just 24 balls, ensuring a competitive total for the USA.

Despite Bas de Leede’s impressive bowling figures of 3 for 37, the Netherlands were unable to contain the American batting lineup, which ultimately proved too strong.
