New Delhi (Web Desk): The Indian government has officially approved a long-pending agreement to purchase 114 Rafale fighter jets from France, marking a significant upgrade to the country’s air defense capabilities.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the $39 billion deal aims to enhance the overall capabilities of the armed forces. Under the plan, the Indian Air Force will receive 114 modern Rafale aircraft, alongside new satellite systems to improve aerial surveillance.
Additionally, advanced missile systems and other defense equipment will be supplied to the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard.
The project was originally proposed nearly 13 years ago, but implementation was delayed due to various factors. The current government has now finalized the agreement, providing a major boost to India’s defense infrastructure.
French politician and parliamentarian Marine Lapin described the decision as a testament to the global leadership of the French defense industry. She noted that the Dassault Rafale program has become one of the most successful export defense programs worldwide.
Lapin added that the deal will further strengthen the strategic partnership and mutual trust between India and France.
The Indian Ministry of Defence emphasized that the primary objectives of this purchase are to strengthen border surveillance and maintain air superiority.
Defense experts believe that integrating 114 Rafale jets will significantly enhance India’s military power in the region while deepening India’s reliance on advanced French technology.
