Karachi (Web Desk): The second death anniversary of renowned Pakistani actor, broadcaster and literary icon, Zia Mohyeddin, was observed on Thursday.
Born in Faisalabad on June 20, 1931, his life unfolded as a tapestry of varied artistic pursuits, spanning the realms of acting, broadcasting, and writing.
A figure whose deep, sonorous voice became synonymous with gravitas, Mohyeddin’s influence transcended the stage and screen.
He first captured the world's attention with his powerful presence in Lawrence of Arabia (1962), a film that introduced him to an international audience.
Yet, it was his enduring commitment to the arts back home that solidified his legacy.
His voice, rich and resonant, was the hallmark of ‘The Zia Mohyeddin Show’, a television masterpiece that became a symbol of cultural refinement during the 1970s.
It was not just the world of entertainment that he shaped, but the very foundation of performing arts in Pakistan, especially through his leadership at the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) in Karachi, where he cultivated fresh talent with unwavering devotion.
Honoured with Pakistan's highest accolades, the Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2003 and the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 2012, his contributions were nothing short of monumental.
He passed away on February 13, 2023, at the age of 91 after a brief illness.
Zia Mohyeddin's legacy lives on, not only in the echoes of his voice but in the young voices he inspired and the countless hearts he touched through his lifelong dedication to his craft.
