Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has encouraged Norwegian companies to consider investment opportunities in Pakistan’s oil and gas exploration sector, stressing the need to expand economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, who called on him in Islamabad.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz expressed satisfaction over the friendly and constructive relationship between Pakistan and Norway. He said Islamabad was keen to further increase bilateral trade and develop stronger economic links with Oslo.
The prime minister also acknowledged Norway’s cooperation with Pakistan in several important areas, including education, skilled workforce development, climate resilience and technology. He said greater collaboration in these fields could contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments. PM Shehbaz appreciated Norway’s firm and principled position on the situation in Palestine and thanked Oslo for its continued support for Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the Gulf region.
Norwegian FM Espen Barth Eide thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz for the warm welcome extended to him during his visit. He also conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to the Pakistani premier.
The Norwegian FM commended Pakistan’s role in regional peace initiatives and expressed Norway’s willingness to broaden bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors.
Barth Eide also praised the Pakistani community in Norway for its positive contribution to the country and its society, highlighting the role of the diaspora in strengthening people-to-people links between the two nations.
PM Shehbaz Sharif invited Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to pay an official visit to Pakistan, with the expectation that such a visit would further reinforce bilateral relations and cooperation.
