Tehran (Web Desk): Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has taken a sharp swipe at US President Donald Trump after Trump announced a naval blockade, warning that the decision could push fuel prices significantly higher in global markets.
In a post on X, Ghalibaf wrote, “Enjoy the current pump figures. With the so-called ‘blockade’, soon you’ll be nostalgic for $4–$5 gas,” linking the move to potential energy shocks and rising costs for consumers.
The remarks came shortly after Trump ordered a US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a move that further intensified regional tensions following recent peace discussions held in Islamabad.
The development added fresh strain to already fragile diplomatic efforts involving Tehran and Washington.
Speaking after returning to Tehran from the Islamabad talks, Ghalibaf struck a defiant tone, stressing that Iran would not be pressured into submission.
He said, “If they fight, we will fight, and if they come forward with logic, we will deal with logic. We will not bow to any threats; let them test our will once again so that we can teach them a bigger lesson.”
Ghalibaf also highlighted Iran’s engagement in the Islamabad negotiations, saying Tehran had made constructive efforts and demonstrated goodwill throughout the process.
He described Iran’s proposals during the discussions as “very good initiatives,” arguing that they had contributed to keeping diplomatic channels active despite long-standing mistrust between both sides.
Responding to renewed pressure from Washington, he insisted that such warnings would not influence the Iranian public or leadership, stating that they “have no effect on the Iranian nation,” as reported by state media.
Earlier, Trump ordered the naval blockade by pointing to Iran’s “unyielding” position regarding its nuclear programme during the Islamabad peace talks, further escalating the rhetoric between the two sides.
