Yerevan (Web Desk): Pakistan’s first Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia, Shafqat Ali Khan, has formally assumed his diplomatic responsibilities after presenting his credentials to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace.
President Khachaturyan welcomed Ambassador Khan and congratulated him on his appointment, expressing his hopes for a successful tenure.
He also assured the ambassador of his support for initiatives aimed at strengthening ties between Armenia and Pakistan and promoting cooperation in areas of shared interest.
Ambassador Khan conveyed the greetings and good wishes of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to President Khachaturyan. He also reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to further deepen its bilateral relationship with Armenia.
During the meeting, both sides highlighted the considerable scope for expanding cooperation between the two countries. Trade and investment, education, cultural exchanges, people-to-people interaction and other sectors of economic collaboration were identified as areas with strong potential.
The credentials ceremony marks a significant development in Pakistan-Armenia relations, following the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2025.
Ambassador Khan’s appointment is also Pakistan’s first ambassadorial-level posting to Armenia.
Before presenting his credentials, Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan met Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ararat Mirzoyan.
The minister welcomed him, congratulated him on his appointment and wished him success in carrying out his diplomatic duties. The two sides reviewed bilateral relations, explored opportunities to broaden cooperation and discussed regional and international issues.
Ambassador Khan also held a meeting with Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan and presented him with a copy of his Letters of Credence.
Safaryan described the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia as an important decision by the leadership of both countries.
The two sides also discussed ways to enhance cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels.
The ambassador’s engagements in Yerevan underscored the shared commitment of Pakistan and Armenia to strengthening their relationship while opening discussions on new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan is concurrently serving as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and as the country’s non-resident ambassador to Armenia.
