Lahore (Web Desk): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmad passed away in Lahore on Tuesday.
A former police officer, the deceased PML-N leader was feeling unwell for some time and was admitted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for treatment two days ago.
Rana Maqbool was elected a Senator in 2018 on a general seat. His tenure was set to end in 2024.
The deceased was the chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar on Tuesday expressed grief over the death of Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmed.
Commiserating with the bereaved family, the prime minister prayed for the departed soul.
Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani offered his “deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmad”.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Senate Chairman wrote, “His service to the nation as a senator and his remarkable compassion as a human being leave an indelible legacy. In these challenging moments, may his family find solace in the overwhelming outpouring of love and support from our nation.
“May Allah, in His infinite mercy, grant Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmed a place in Jannah, for his unwavering dedication to our country and his exemplary character. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time,” Sanjrani added.
PML-N president and former premier Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the death of party senator.
In a post on X, the PML-N president said that the Ran Maqbool's demise has robbed him off a close and trusted friend.
"Rana Maqbool Ahmed was a brave, practical and intelligent person, who tended to matters wisely," the former premier said.
Shehbaz Sharif added that during his police service,Rana Maqbool did valuable work for the eradication of crime and his services to the nation will be remembered forever.
