Lahore (Web Desk): The Sikh community is celebrating 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji all over the world today (Tuesday).

A ceremony regarding the day was held at Gurdwara Janam Asthan at Nankana Sahib, the Radio Pakistan reported.

Addressing the ceremony, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said PTI Government is committed to protect religious heritage of minorities in country.

Speaking on this occasion, Interior Minister Ejaz Shah said that Kartarpur Corridor is a great gift from PTI Government for Sikh community paving the way for peace and friendship in the region.

He said that Pakistan will continue to look after holy places of minorities including the Sikh community in as better way as possible.

“Pakistani people have opened their hearts for Kartarpur Corridor project”, Shah added.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar in his message congratulated the Sikh community on the 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

He said the birthday of Baba Guru Nanak is a festival of joy and religious fervour.

Sardar Usman Buzdar said that Baba Guru Nanak promoted the message of brotherhood.

“Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the best example of religious tolerance and inter-faith harmony,” the Punjab CM said.

He welcomed the Sikh community coming to the Punjab province for attending the birthday celebrations.

Buzdar said that Sikhs are enjoying complete freedom to live according to their faith in Pakistan.

He added that special attention is being paid to the maintenance, renovation and security of Sikh community's worship places.

The Punjab CM said that opening of Kartarpur corridor has rejuvenated the joys of Sikh community and it is another historic step of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government for promotion of religious harmony.

On November 9, Prime Minister Imran Khan performed inauguration of historic Kartarpur Corridor to facilitate entry of Sikh pilgrims from India into Gurdwara Dera Sahib at Kartarpur in Narowal district of Pakistan.

Thousands of Sikhs from different parts of the world including India attended the ceremony.

Dubbed as 'Zero Point', the Corridor including a bridge stretches for one-kilometer over the Ravi River flowing between the two countries.

The 4-km-long corridor will connect Dera Baba Nanak in India’s Gurdaspur district with Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan’s Narowal district. The corridor will provide visa-free access to the Indian Sikh pilgrims to the shrine.

The Gurdwara Kartarpur Darbar Sahib holds religious significance for the Sikh community. It is where Baba Guru Nanak settled down after his travels as a missionary. He lived there for 18 years until his death in 1539.

The ground breaking ceremony of the corridor was held on 28th November last year.
