Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan on Tuesday categorically rejected a report published by US-based CBS News claiming the presence of Iranian aircraft at Rawalpindi’s Nur Khan Airbase, calling the report “misleading and sensationalized”.
In a statement, Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said that “Such speculative narratives appear aimed at undermining ongoing efforts for regional stability and peace.”
The FO spokesperson explained that after the ceasefire and during the opening phase of the Islamabad Talks, several aircraft from Iran and the United States (US) had landed in Pakistan to support the transportation of diplomatic officials, security personnel, and administrative teams linked to the talks process.
He added that a number of aircraft and support crews stayed in the country temporarily in expectation of further rounds of discussions.
According to Andrabi, although formal negotiations have not resumed so far, diplomatic engagement at the senior level has continued between the concerned sides.
He further said that the Iranian foreign minister’s visits to Islamabad were arranged through the same logistical and administrative setup already in place.
The spokesperson clarified that the Iranian aircraft currently stationed in Pakistan had arrived during the ceasefire period and bear no linkage whatsoever to any military contingency or preservation arrangement.
“Assertions suggesting otherwise are speculative, misleading, and entirely detached from the factual context,” Andrabi said.
He emphasized that Pakistan had always maintained the role of a neutral, constructive, and responsible facilitator committed to promoting dialogue and reducing tensions in the region.
As part of this role, he said Pakistan continued to provide routine logistical and administrative assistance whenever needed, while ensuring transparency and maintaining regular communication with all relevant stakeholders.
The FO spokesperson reiterated that Pakistan remained committed to supporting all sincere efforts aimed at promoting dialogue, reducing tensions, and advancing regional and global peace, stability, and security.
