Attock (Web Desk): A local resident embraced martyrdom after courageously stopping a suspected suicide bomber near the inter-provincial region of Jand and Khushal Garh Bridge in Attock, preventing a potentially devastating attack on civilians and a nearby security checkpoint.
According to security sources, the Fitna al-Khawarij terrorist was seen moving suspiciously in the area close to Kohat when a shepherd identified as Liaqat intercepted him and asked for his identity.
The attacker reportedly became panicked during the questioning and detonated his explosives, leaving Liaqat martyred on the spot.
As per the initial reports, the suicide attacker was reportedly heading toward a highly sensitive checkpoint located near the border area between provinces.
Liaqat was retired Pakistan Railways employee from Mankor village in Jand tehsil of Attock district.
Security officials stated that his courageous intervention at the critical moment not only secured the checkpoint from a possible attack but also saved many civilians who were present in the nearby area.
President Asif Ali Zardari praised the sacrifice of Shaheed Liaqat and honoured his courage in thwarting the terrorist’s intentions.
In his statement, the president said citizens like Liaqat reflect the nation’s unwavering determination, patriotism and unity in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
He added that the people of Pakistan remain firmly aligned with the country’s security institutions and law enforcement agencies in eliminating the threat of militancy.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the martyred civilian, saying Liaqat acted with exceptional bravery and a strong sense of responsibility by confronting the suspect and asking for identification.
The premier said the terrorist detonated himself after being challenged, resulting in Liaqat’s martyrdom.
The prime minister described Shaheed Liaqat as a symbol of courage, devotion and love for the country, stating that fearless individuals like him embody the spirit of Pakistan’s resistance against terrorism.
He remarked that the martyr’s sacrifice would continue to inspire the nation and would never be forgotten.
PM Shehbaz further said that the entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with its security forces and law enforcement agencies against the scourge of terrorism.
He emphasized that the malicious plans of hostile elements have repeatedly been defeated through national solidarity and that the same unity would continue to overcome future threats.
The prime minister also offered prayers for the departed soul of Shaheed Liaqat and expressed sympathy with his family, praying they are granted patience and strength during this difficult time.
