PM Shehbaz nominates PML-N's Nehal Hashmi as Sindh governor

Islamabad (Web Desk): The federal government has decided to appoint senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Syed Nehal Hashmi as the new Governor of Sindh.

According to reports Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has forwarded the summary to the President of Pakistan for approval and also congratulated Hashmi on his nomination during a meeting.

Syed Nehal Hashmi is a lawyer and a seasoned politician. He previously served as Senator from March 2015 to February 2018.

Earlier, between 1997 and 1999, he worked as Adviser to then premier Nawaz Sharif on Law, Justice and Human Rights.

Within the PML-N, he has also held key organisational roles, including serving as president of the party’s Karachi chapter and as the party’s general secretary in Sindh.

Hashmi was elected to the Senate in 2015 on a general seat from Punjab. However, in 2018 he was convicted in a contempt of court case and sentenced to one month in prison, along with disqualification from holding any public office for five years.
