Pallekele (Web Desk): Sri Lanka maintained their dominant form in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a massive 105-run victory over Oman at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, registering their second consecutive win of the tournament.
Set a daunting target of 226 runs, Oman struggled throughout their chase and could only manage 120 for nine in their allotted 20 overs. Mohammad Nadeem was the top performer for Oman, scoring 53 from 56 balls, while Wasim Ali added a quick 27 off 20 deliveries. The rest of the batting lineup failed to offer much resistance.
Sri Lanka’s bowling attack delivered a disciplined performance, with Dushmantha Chameera and Maheesh Theekshana claiming two wickets each. Dunith Wellalage, Dushan Hemantha and Kamindu Mendis picked up one wicket apiece.
Earlier, Sri Lanka posted an imposing total of 225 for five after being asked to bat first. Wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis, Pavan Rathnayake and captain Dasun Shanaka played key roles in building the huge score.
The hosts had a cautious beginning, losing Pathum Nissanka for 13 and Kamil Mishara for eight, leaving them at 42 for two in just over five overs. However, Rathnayake and Kusal Mendis rebuilt the innings with a solid 94-run stand. During this partnership, Rathnayake reached his maiden T20I half-century.
Rathnayake was eventually dismissed for a rapid 60 off 28 balls by Jiten Ramanandi. Shanaka then joined Kusal Mendis and launched an aggressive assault, adding 63 runs together. The captain smashed a quickfire 50 from just 20 balls before being dismissed, while Kusal Mendis was run out shortly after for a well-made 61.
Sri Lanka closed their innings strongly with Kamindu Mendis finishing unbeaten on 19, supported by Dunith Wellalage, taking the total beyond Oman’s reach.
