Dhaka (Web Desk): Voting is underway with enthusiasm in Bangladesh’s ongoing general elections, as political leaders express their positions and urge public participation. Shafiqur Rahman, Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, warned of a strong response in the event of election fraud.
He urged citizens to exercise their democratic right by coming out to vote and emphasized that if allegations of rigging are proven, no one will be spared.
Rahman also stated that a victory for Jamaat-e-Islami could lead to the formation of the country’s first Islamist government, stressing the importance of free and fair elections to uphold the integrity of democracy.
Nahid Islam, leader of the National Citizens Party, echoed similar sentiments after casting his vote, saying that his focus is solely on ensuring a free and fair election, regardless of winning or losing.
He urged the public to vote fearlessly and commented on the unfortunate incidents that occurred the previous night, noting that some miscreants attempted to sabotage the elections, but their efforts will fail.
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman also cast his vote at Gulshan Model High School in Dhaka, returning to his homeland after seventeen years in the UK to exercise his electoral right. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir paid respects at his parents’ graves before voting and described the day as the result of long struggle and sacrifices.
He expressed hope that the elections would be fair, free, and impartial, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Bangladesh. Alamgir also condemned last night’s disturbances as the actions of troublemakers and said he is confident they will be defeated.
Despite political tensions and allegations of election fraud, public enthusiasm remains high, and political leaders continue to promote positive messages. Efforts are ongoing nationwide to ensure the transparency and integrity of the electoral process.
