Karachi (Web Desk): South Africa set Pakistan a daunting target of 353 runs after putting up a solid performance with the bat in the crucial tri-nation series encounter.
Opting to bat first, the Proteas posted a total of 352/5 in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to strong contributions across the order.
The innings got off to a steady start, with the new opening pair of Tony de Zorzi and Temba Bavuma adding 51 runs for the first wicket.
However, the partnership ended when de Zorzi fell to Shaheen Shah Afridi on the final delivery of the eighth over, scoring 21 from 18 balls.
Bavuma then combined with the in-form Matthew Breetzke, and the pair quickly gained momentum, putting together a substantial 119-run partnership.
Bavuma looked set for a big score before being run out for 82 off 96 balls, striking 13 boundaries.
Breetzke continued the attack, scoring 83 off 84 balls, before falling in the 39th over. Klaasen then took charge of the innings, with a blistering knock of 87 from 56 balls, including 11 fours and three sixes.
His efforts propelled South Africa's score beyond the 300-mark. However, they suffered a setback when Afridi dismissed Wiaan Mulder cheaply for two runs.
Pakistan's bowlers fought back, with Afridi taking two wickets for 66 runs, while Khushdil Shah and Naseem Shah each picked up a scalp.
Despite the flurry of wickets, South Africa's total of 352/5 proved to be a tough challenge for the Pakistan side as they now need 353 to stay alive in the tournament and book a place in the final.
