Doha (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Israel's brazen aggression in the Middle East must be stopped and stressed that the Muslim Ummah needs unity among its ranks in the face of such provocations.
He voiced these concerns during his official visit to Doha on Thursday, where he arrived to show solidarity with Qatar after the recent Israeli strike on the capital.
During a cordial meeting with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Shehbaz Sharif conveyed Pakistan’s strongest denunciation of the Israeli assault carried out on Tuesday, describing it as a clear and deliberate breach of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
PM Shehbaz said that the attack had deeply upset both the government and people of Pakistan, as it represented not only aggression against a brotherly state but also a serious violation of international law.
Reaffirming the longstanding brotherly relations between Islamabad and Doha, the prime minister noted that the two countries had consistently supported one another in times of hardship.
He emphasized that Pakistan stood firmly alongside the Emir, the royal family, and the people of Qatar during this difficult period.
Extending heartfelt condolences for the lives lost, he prayed for the quick recovery of the injured and pledged Pakistan’s full solidarity in the face of what he termed an unwarranted act of aggression.
PM Shehbaz also lauded Qatar’s constructive and balanced role in efforts to achieve peace in Gaza and observed that Israel’s violent actions were intended to destabilize the region and disrupt ongoing humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives.
He added that, at Qatar’s request, Pakistan had moved for an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to deliberate on the worsening Middle East situation.
He further welcomed Qatar’s decision to host an Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit on Monday and confirmed Pakistan’s willingness to join the OIC as co-sponsor and co-convener of the gathering.
The prime minister also thanke the Qatari leadership for its strong backing of Pakistan during its confrontation with India earlier this year. In response, Sheikh Tamim expressed gratitude to Shehbaz Sharif for personally visiting Doha at such a critical time to extend support and solidarity.
The two leaders agreed to continue close cooperation to advance regional peace, uphold international law, and champion the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The visit reaffirmed the enduring fraternal partnership between Pakistan and Qatar and underscored their shared resolve to work for stability and peace in the region.
On Tuesday, Israel launched an airstrike in Doha, targeting senior Hamas figures and widening its offensive to the Gulf nation that has long hosted the group’s political leadership.
Hamas sources stated that the strike occurred as its envoys were discussing a ceasefire initiative proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. Qatar condemned the assault, branding it a ‘cowardly’ act and a clear breach of international law.
