Hyderabad, India (Web Desk): Pakistan Cricket team secured a massive win on Tuesday by six wickets while chasing down the highest total in World Cup history during their match against Sri Lanka at Indian Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan team successfully chased down the massive target of 345 runs, thanks to Muhammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique's centuries after early wickets of skipper Babar Azam and opener Imam-ul-Haq.
After winning toss, Sri Lanka decided to bat first and hit a massive 344-run total which was the highest-ever total against Pakistan in a World Cup match, overtaking India who scored 336 in the 2019 World Cup in Manchester, England.
Kusal Mendis scored a total of 122 runs on just 77 deliveries Sadeera Samarawickrama also completed his century, scoring 108 runs in 89 balls with 13 boundaries.
From Pakistani side, Hassan Al took 4 and Haris Rauf took 2 wickets, while Shadab Khan, Muhammad Nawaz and Shaheen Afridi took one wicket each.
In reply, Pakistan started with early wickets and were just 37-2 as they lost their opening batsmen, Imam-ul-Haq and skipper Babar Azam, in just 7.1 overs but the match-winning partnership between Rizwan and the World Cup debutant, Shafique, who replaced out of the form Fakhar Zaman, paved the way for Green shirts for a historic win.
The 176-run partnership between the Rizwan and Shafique provided Pakistani side the much-needed runs for massive run chase, but Shafique walked back to the pavilion after scoring 113 off 103 balls with 10 fours and three sixes.
Rizwan stayed till the end and took his side over the line by scoring 131 runs, Pakistan Team's second-highest individual score in the World Cup overtaking Ramiz Raja’s 119 against New Zealand in 1992.
