Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated his commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by the public during Ramadan by ensuring that essential food items are available at affordable prices.
He was chairing a review meeting in Islamabad today (Tuesday) regarding the performance of the committee established to provide food items at affordable prices during Ramadan.
PM Shehbaz commended the committee's work and the Islamabad administration's success in curbing food prices, ensuring that necessities are accessible at lower costs.
The prime minister directed that no profiteer should escape punishment, while also ensuring that innocent individuals are not unfairly targeted.
He called on public officials and federal ministers to visit Ramadan bazaars, facilitation stalls, and other designated locations across Islamabad to monitor the distribution of affordable food items firsthand.
PM Shehbaz also emphasized the importance of continued vigilance in overseeing the price control system to guarantee ongoing relief for the public.
The meeting was briefed on the establishment of 16 facilitation stalls, 5 Ramadan bazaars, 18 fair price shops, and several other designated facilities in Islamabad.
These locations are selling essential items such as ghee, eggs, lentils, sugar, and chicken at prices lower than those found in the open market.
The meeting was informed that DC counters have been set up in major departmental stores to ensure that 12 key items are available at reduced prices.
Since Ramadan began, 4,915 inspections have been carried out, resulting in the arrest of 785 individuals and the imposition of fines totaling 728,000 rupees on those found guilty of profiteering
It was said that an online app has been introduced to track the performance of price magistrates, ensuring a more efficient monitoring process.
Meanwhile, Bait-ul-Mal is providing Iftar meals to deserving fasting individuals at eight locations across Islamabad.
