Islamabad (Web Desk): Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that disputes of a political nature should be settled through democratic procedures and the will of the people, stressing that such matters must ultimately be decided by voters.
Speaking in the National Assembly during a discussion on the Kashmir issue and the voting rights of Kashmiri refugees, he remarked that both Pakistanis and Kashmiris have made immense sacrifices for the cause.
He added that the Kashmir issue is not confined only to the people of the valley but is a broader national responsibility involving the entire Pakistani population of nearly 250 million.
Highlighting the struggles of Kashmiri refugees, he noted that many families are still residing in refugee settlements and underlined that the historical background and identity of Kashmiris from Jammu and the Valley deserve full recognition.
Reiterating Pakistan’s longstanding position, he said the country would continue its support for the Kashmir cause across future generations as well.
Te defence minister also urged all political forces to uphold the dignity and sanctity of Parliament, cautioning that political disagreements should not undermine the functioning of democratic institutions.
He called for unity in strengthening the legislature so that it can make more effective decisions in the interest of public welfare and national progress.
Responding to a Calling Attention Notice in the House, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry stated that the initial phase of the Park Road infrastructure project is moving ahead according to plan and is expected to be completed by next month.
He further explained that construction work is progressing on schedule, while the second phase of the project is likely to be finished by August this year. Once both phases are completed, he said the improved infrastructure will significantly ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time for commuters to around half an hour.
National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq ordered the suspension of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Iqbal Afridi for the current parliamentary sitting.
The Speaker, in his ruling, said that the use of offensive language and inappropriate behaviour towards lower-grade staff of the House could not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He stressed that preserving parliamentary discipline and respecting the dignity of employees remains essential.
The National Assembly will now meet on Friday at 3 pm.
