Washington (Web Desk): The United States (US) has added the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to its list of countries eligible for special export privileges, making it easier for the Gulf nation to access advanced American technology and defence-related equipment.

According to international media reports, the UAE has become the first Gulf country and the second Muslim-majority nation after Türkiye to be placed in the A:5 export category.

Under the new classification, the UAE government and authorised commercial entities will be able to import a range of eligible US products under the Strategic Trade Authorization (STA) framework without obtaining individual export licences, provided they comply with the required conditions.

The items covered under the arrangement include certain defence equipment, commercial satellites and space-related technologies regulated by the US Department of Commerce.

These technologies are used in sectors such as oil and gas production, seawater desalination and civilian nuclear energy.

The US Department of Commerce said the move would strengthen the UAE's trade, infrastructure and defence capabilities while also advancing US strategic interests in the Middle East.
