Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday emphasized the urgent need to replace the country’s outdated governance framework with a more modern, digital, and efficient system.
Chairing a meeting in Islamabad, the premier said that sustainable economic growth and national prosperity are not possible without aligning the administrative structure with the needs of the contemporary world.
He instructed that comprehensive reforms be introduced across ministries to enhance their effectiveness.
PM Shehbaz also stressed the importance of bringing on board experts in every field to support the government’s efforts toward institutional modernization.
The Ministry of Energy, during the meeting, gave a detailed briefing on its current governance mechanism, which integrates sector specialists for improved management and reform implementation.
The prime minister pointed out that Pakistan’s current system, which has remained largely unchanged for over seventy years, cannot support the nation’s aspirations for progress.
He underlined that Pakistan is abundant in natural resources and possesses a dynamic and capable youth population.
Many talented individuals from Pakistan, he added, have earned international recognition, which reflects the country’s untapped potential.
PM Shehbaz expressed appreciation for Energy Minister Sardar Awais Khan Leghari and his team for their dedicated work, noting that their reforms have led to significant savings and efficiency improvements, offering a valuable model for other departments to emulate.
The prime minister stressed that engaging internationally recognized experts and consultants is essential for introducing transformative ideas and upgrading governance methods in line with global standards.
He instructed the formation of a special committee tasked with developing practical recommendations for restructuring ministries and public institutions.
This body will also work on recruiting highly qualified professionals and aligning government operations with current demands to ensure better performance.
In the briefing, it was revealed that under the National Electricity Plan, the energy ministry has already implemented 134 strategic measures.
The ministry now focuses on policymaking, oversight, and long-term planning, while a specialized technical team manages execution, innovation, and system advancement.
The meeting was also given a detailed briefing on the profiles of the sector experts and the current working of the ministry under the established system.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Dr Musadik Malik, Ahad Khan Cheema, Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kiyani, Chief Coordinator Musharraf Zaidi, and other senior officials.
