Beijing (Web Desk/Agencies): Pakistan and China reinforced their shared commitment to the high-quality development of CPEC 2.0.
The understanding came during the 5th meeting of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Joint Working Group on International Cooperation and Coordination, held in Beijing.
This next phase of the initiative places a strong focus on industrialization, the establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZs), clean energy, agriculture, and projects aimed at improving livelihoods.
The meeting was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and China’s Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress made since the previous meeting in Islamabad in January 2024.
They reiterated the importance of CPEC as a central pillar of economic collaboration between the two countries and as a testament to their long-standing friendship.
The Chinese vice foreign minister emphasized the introduction of five new corridors under CPEC 2.0, which are designed to promote growth, livelihood, innovation, openness, and sustainability.
These corridors align with Pakistan’s development strategy, which is focused on enhancing exports, expanding digital infrastructure, improving energy production, preserving the environment, and ensuring social equity.
In addition, the meeting saw both sides agreeing to deepen cooperation in cultural exchanges, media, and people-to-people interactions, aiming to strengthen the ties between their nations.
The two countries affirmed their resolve to continue working closely together to build a shared future and foster mutual prosperity in the region.
